Gilson’s exclusive Universal adjustable chute design features easy-to-adjust chutes and spring-loaded lever-release hoppers to assure top accuracy when reducing bulk materials. Universal Splitters are versatile, convenient, and cost-effective. A single model serves the purpose of two or more conventional splitters. Since the material flow is controlled with a lever-release, only the included sample collecting pans are necessary for proper use. Extra sample pans are available for faster, more efficient material processing. Large, floor-standing SP-1 and SP-0 models offer increased capacities not available from other sources.

SP-3, SP-33, SP-2.5, and SP-0 Models have 60° chute slopes; SP-1 and SP-2 have 45° chutes. Simple, inexpensive Adapter Kits are offered for 60° conversion of the SP-1 and SP-2. Steeper chute angles are sometimes necessary for improved flowability or to meet certain coal or coke testing specifications. SP-2.5 and SP-3 are manufactured mostly of stainless steel; other models are heavy-gauge painted steel and anodized aluminum. SP-33 is 100% stainless steel construction.

The Universal chutes consist of aluminum bars of precise width pivoting on a rod through their lower ends. The top of the bar ends are grouped on alternate sides to form desired width chutes. Groupings resulting in an equal number of chutes on each side may be used (See table of options for each model). Most specifications require at least eight openings per side with coarse sizes and twelve with finer sizes. Once set, bars are drawn together with wing nuts on threaded ends of the pivot rod.

SP-0 Universal Splitter is designed for large volume bulk aggregate samples up to 400lb (182kg) (ASTM D 75) or raw coal samples to 300lb (136kg) (ASTM D 2234). Other high-volume samples with particle sizes up to 6in (152mm) can be accurately reduced with this rugged divider. 60° chute slopes are standard. Lever-release hopper holds up to 3.5ft³ (99.1L) of material for precisely controlled splitting. Two pans on each side are included to receive the split sample, and extra pans are available as SPA-400. Material in both pans on a side is treated as a single sample. SP-1 Universal Splitter is a rugged, large-capacity floor model for dividing samples of aggregate, ore and other granular materials. This original model of the Universal design is suitable for laboratory or field use with materials with particle sizes from 4in (102mm) down to fine sand. The lever-release allows controlled, accurate splits from the 1ft³ (28.3L) hopper.

Available accessories make this an even more useful and versatile device for any materials lab. The SPA-102 Chute Attachment replaces one pan to permit direct loading of material into a bag or container. Optional PSA-114 Porta Wheels bolt easily to the splitter for mobility. The SPA-103 60° Adapter Kit increases the chute slope of the splitter to handle “difficult” materials. The SPA-114 Fixed Chute Accessory converts an SP-1 into a SP-1C fixed-chute splitter with ten 2-1/4in wide chutes, and the SPA-7 Enclosure Adapter Set converts the SP-1 to a SP-10 Totally Enclosed Splitter for improved dust control. SP-2 Universal Splitter for 2in (51mm) to sand sizes is more durable and compact than conventional portable splitters. Lightweight with ample hopper capacity, the SP-2 is convenient for use from floor or bench-top positions. With a 0.55ft³ (15.6L) lever-release hopper and adjustability to form up to 36 dividing chutes, this splitter provides accurate and representative samples for a wide range of materials. Two pans are included, but extra pans are available as SPA-101. Optional SPA-106 Adapter Kit modifies the 45° chutes to a 60° angle for more efficient processing of difficult samples. SP-2.5 Universal Splitter for 3/4in (19mm) and smaller sizes has wide application for use with fine aggregates as well as many coarser sizes. It is rugged enough for use in the field as well as on the laboratory bench. The 0.28ft³ (7.9L) leverrelease hopper has plenty of capacity for samples in this size range, and up to 48 chutes can be formed with the adjustable chute bars. Most contact parts are stainless steel except for the anodized aluminum chute bars. Optional SPA-109 Dust Enclosure Accessory installs easily and has hinged flaps that hold in open or closed positions for pan access. SP-2.5 Dimensions: 15.5x12.5x17.5in (394x318x445mm),WxDxH. Est. SP-3 Universal Splitter for 1/4in (6.4mm) to powder sizes is the smallest Universal Splitter. The benchtop SP-3 features stainless steel hopper and frame with anodized aluminum chute bars and sample pans. The 104in³ (1.7L) hopper has a 3/8in (9.5mm) bottom opening with a spring-loaded gate release. An optional Dust Enclosure Kit is available as SPA-302, and consists of two stainless steel panels held in place by springs. SP-33 Universal Splitter has similar design and specifications to SP-3. The 100% stainless steel construction of the SP-33 reduces the risk of sample contamination and increases durability of the chute bars and sample pans. This model is a good choice for sensitive materials, foodgrade samples, or abrasives. The SP-302 Dust Enclosure Kit is compatible with this unit.
