Simple RL/Qd measurement for checking road and airport marking visibility
The Zehntner ZRM 6006 is a portable RL/Qd retroreflectometer designed for straightforward measurement of the day and night visibility of road and airport markings. As Zehntner’s entry-level model, it focuses on the essential measurement functions with simple one-button operation, making it practical for routine field and laboratory checks.
Measure nighttime RL and daytime Qd
The ZRM 6006 measures both the coefficient of retroreflected luminance (RL),used to evaluate nighttime visibility, and the luminance coefficient under diffuse illumination (Qd),used to evaluate daytime visibility. Both parameters can therefore be checked with one compact instrument.
RL and Qd results in about two seconds
RL and Qd are measured in approximately two seconds. Measurements can be performed in daylight or at night, allowing the instrument to be used without restricting inspections to particular ambient lighting conditions.
Simple one-button operation
The ZRM 6006 is designed around ease of use, with one measurement button and a separate on/off button. A transflective graphical LCD with LED backlighting provides good readability during outdoor measurements.
Measure dry and wet road markings
The instrument can evaluate road markings under dry conditions and measure RL under wet conditions. It is suitable for all types of road markings and can also be used on profiled markings. The specified measuring geometry is maintained for profiles from -1 mm to 5 mm, while profiles up to 12 mm can be evaluated using the procedure described by Zehntner.
Integrated temperature and humidity measurement
In addition to RL and Qd, the ZRM 6006 measures ambient temperature in °C or °F and relative humidity. These environmental readings are available directly from the instrument during field inspections.
Standardized measurement geometry
The instrument uses a 2.29° observation angle for EN 1436 and ASTM E2302 and a 1.05° observation angle for ASTM E1710. Its CEN geometry corresponds to an observation distance of 30 m, while Qd measurements use diffuse illumination.
Designed for field and laboratory quality assessment
The ZRM 6006 can be used for quality assessment of road and airport markings in the field or laboratory. Its combination of RL and Qd measurement, simple controls and portable construction makes it particularly suitable when the essential retroreflection measurements are required without the data-management functions of more advanced instruments.
