Mustard refers to a group of plant species in the genera Brassica and Sinapis. The plant produces small round seeds, which are used as a spice. A common way to consume mustard is in the form of prepared mustard, which consists of ground mustard seeds mixed with water, vinegar and other ingredients.

Yellow, brown and black mustard are also frequently used as an ingredient in many food preparations. For mustard allergic people, these hidden allergens in food are a critical problem, as many mustard proteins are heat stable, making them resistant to different production processes.

Allergic individuals must strictly avoid the consumption of mustard, because even very low amounts can lead to severe allergic reactions. The food industry is required to use sensitive mustard test systems, as cross contaminations may occur during the food production process.

AgraStrip^® Lateral Flow Devices

The AgraStrip^® Mustard test kit is a ready-to-use lateral flow device (LFD) for on-site testing. This immunological test allows a rapid analysis of a wide range of food samples within only 11 minutes (including extraction).

AgraStrip^® LFDs represent a fast and simple qualitative strip test method in which specific antibodies labeled with colloidal gold are used for visual color development at a test and control zone.

The test kit comes complete with strips, antibody coated incubation vials, extraction tubes, an extraction buffer, surface swabs and additional accessories.

AgraQuant^® ELISA Tests

The AgraQuant® Mustard test kit is an accurate and reliable enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a quantitative format. Results are measured with a specific ELISA reader, such as the StatFax® or the BioTek® reader.

The AgraQuant® Plus Mustard test kit is specifically designed for a more efficient workflow. This test format uses unique extraction capsules that speed up the extraction of allergenic proteins, especially from processed matrices, to barely 1 minute.

Incubation times of the assay are reduced to 3 x 10 minutes, leading to a total assay time of 30 minutes for up to 38 samples.

Both AgraQuant® Mustard test kits are sandwich ELISAs in a ready-to-use format to reduce handling errors and come with a set of 5 standards, extraction solution /capsules, an antibody coated plate, a wash buffer, a conjugate, a substrate and a stop solution.

The AgraQuant^® Plus Mustard is a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) designed for the quantitative analysis of mustard residues in food samples. It features a fast extraction procedure with a unique capsule technology. The total assay time is reduced to 30 minutes, with only 1 minute needed for the extraction procedure.
