Gluten Test Kits for Lab and On-Site Detection

Gluten is a fraction of cereal proteins that can not only trigger allergic reactions, but also cause an immune response in people suffering from celiac disease. The only treatment in both cases is a life-long gluten-free diet.

It is the responsibility of food producers to protect consumers from the consequences of accidental gluten intake. According to many national authorities and Codex Alimentarius standard 118-1979, the level of gluten in food must not exceed 20 mg/kg (20 ppm) for products to be labeled gluten-free.

The Romer Labs gluten test kit portfolio covers ELISAs and LFDs for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of gluten in environmental samples, rinse waters and finished food products.

Certified and AOAC approved gluten test kits

The AgraQuant^® Gluten G12 ELISA test kit is an AACC International Approved method (AACCI 38-52.01) and an AOAC-approved Official Method of Analysis (OMA 2014.03).

The AgraStrip^® Gluten G12 LFD test kit holds the certification of the AOAC Research Institute for Performance Tested methods (Certificate No. 061403).

Highly specific next generation antibody - G12

Besides the polyclonal gluten antibody used in its traditional test kits, Romer Labs offers methods that employ a next generation antibody, the G12. This monoclonal antibody was raised against an Alpha-2-gliadin fragment that is 33 amino acids long and a principal contributor to gluten immunotoxicity. The 33-mer is highly resistant to digestive degradation and is therefore well suited as an analytical marker.

The G12 antibody targets a toxic peptide of gluten that triggers the autoimmune reaction in celiac patients, making it more relevant for food safety.

AgraStrip^® Lateral Flow Devices

The AgraStrip^® Gluten and AgraStrip® Gluten G12 test kits are ready-to-use lateral flow devices (LFD) for on-site testing. These immunological tests allow a rapid analysis of a wide range of food samples within only 11 minutes (including extraction).

AgraStrip^® LFDs represent a fast and simple qualitative strip test method in which specific antibodies labeled with colloidal gold are used for visual color development at a test and control zone.

The test kits come complete with strips, antibody coated incubation vials, extraction tubes, an extraction buffer, surface swabs and additional accessories.

AgraQuant^® ELISA Tests

AgraQuant^® Gluten/ Gluten G12 test kits are accurate and reliable enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) in a quantitative format. Results are measured with a specific ELISA reader, such as the StatFax^® or the BioTek^® reader.

These ELISA test kits are the ideal solution for a parallel measurement of multiple samples with assay times of as low as 60 minutes for up to 38 samples (86 samples for AQ Gluten G12).

AgraQuant^® Gluten/ Gluten G12 test kits are sandwich ELISAs in a ready-to-use format to reduce handling errors and come with a set of 5 standards, an antibody coated plate, an extraction solution, a wash buffer, a conjugate, a substrate and a stop solution. The AgraQuant® Gluten G12 additionally contains a diluent buffer and a sachet of fish gelatin.

The AgraStrip^® Gluten G12® test kit is a lateral flow device (LFD) designed for the on-site detection of gluten in raw materials, finished food products and beverages, rinse waters and environmental samples. The G12^® antibody represents the next generation of gluten testing as it targets toxic peptides that trigger auto-immune reactions in people suffering from celiac disease. It is a monoclonal antibody that was raised against the immunotoxic 33-mer peptide from the gliadin fraction in gluten. Results obtained from immunochemical test systems based on the G12^® antibody should be considered to be closer to the ideal of a food safety test as they establish the important link between celiac disease and detection of the immunotoxic peptides.

The AgraQuant^® Gluten G12^® is a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) designed for the quantitative analysis of gluten in a variety of foods. Samples can vary from raw to processed foods, from environmental swabs to rinse water. The G12^® antibody targets a 33-mer peptide which is resistant to enzymatic digestion and heat denatiuration, and is the fragment of the gliadin protein to which celiac disease sufferers react, making it a reliable analytical marker. This product is intended for laboratory use.
